Deadly Countdown
A downloadable game for Windows

Cybernetically enhanced mercenaries have planted bombs throughout the city and are demanding a ransom. If their demands are not met, they will detonate the bombs and kill millions. You are a member of a special task force trained to deal with situations like this. You must fight your way through waves and waves of enemies to get to those bombs! But be warned, you won't just be dealing with mercenaries as they have also hijacked many helper robots to boost their ranks.
Good luck, agent. We are counting on you.

>Developer comments:
Made for the Ship Your Game Jam 2026 hosted by Uisco. The theme was arcade and for me, you can't get more arcadey than the good old light gun shooters I used to play like Virtua Cop, House of the Dead and Time Crisis. The latter being the one I drew inspiration from the most for this game.
I tried to keep the scope simple, not get too fancy and apply the stuff the course went over. With just a few tiny adjustments for preference sake. Most of the assets are also free just to prove that you can still get a similar result following the ShipYourGame program.
I was tempted to actually implement movement to the character to make them move to a different spot in the level but since one of the rules specifically states: "One level. No level select, no map screen, no progression between areas" I decided to hold off since that does sound like it would conflict with the latter part of the rule. I could always implement it down the line if I ever decided to go further with this.
I didn't really have the time to optimize the game due to the relatively short time we're given so it won't really run the best on older hardware.
>Final Thoughts:
For the last month or so, I was suffering from severe depression mainly related to game dev and I didn't know if I wanted to continue down that path. Originally I wasn't intending to join the game jam but deep down a part of me still likes the idea of making games so I decided to join in hopes of maybe figuring out an answer for myself. Regardless of how the game does, I'm glad I attempted it.
